03 Adalaria proxima

03 Adalaria proxima

Image, as Doris proxima, from Alder & Hancock (1845 -1855). First described by A. & H. from Mersey Estuary. Their image and description of tubercles as “elliptical or fusiform and obtusely pointed at the top, and not flatly rounded as in Doris aspersa [Onchidoris muricata]” match most in Northern Ireland, Wales and England as far south as the Bristol Channel. Those in Scotland are usually white.
