Length of live animal 26 mm. Dorsal view. Shell, girdle/mantle, valve-musculature, heart, and longitudinal muscle bands with enclosed aorta removed. Llŷn, North Wales. March 2016.
1: radula bending over front of red odontophore to pass through mouth.
2: hyaline shield of radula resting on right bolster cartilage.
3: numerous radula retractor muscles which attach to valve ii. Coloured by red myoglobin (oxygen carrying pigment)
4: nephridia; cilia-lined excretory/osmoregulatory tubules (kidney-like function).
5: stomach.
6: groove in wall of stomach / foregut.
7: intestine.
8: rectum.
9: anus.
10: dorsal surface of foot.
11: dorsal surface of foot exposed by removal of musculature, heart, aorta and gonad (testes).
12: gills.
13: testes removed from body.
14: junction of broad stomach with narrow intestine.
15: salivary gland.
16: pharynx.
