35 Phorcus lineatus

Ventral view of buccal mass and radula after some tissue removed with NaOH solution.
The front of the radula is brought into feeding action by powerful muscles protruding and retracting the supporting odontophore of the buccal mass. The mass is red with myoglobin which supplies the oxygen required by the muscles. The interior pair of white cartilaginous bolsters are partly exposed by the NaOH.
