31 Marsenia perspicua COMPARE Lamellaria latens

Diagnostic features of L. latens not found on M. perspicua.
#Opaque white marks on translucent whitish head and/or underside of mantle-lobes, see image 32.
#Spire of shell does not protrude (1) beyond outer lip of aperture so shell outline is a smooth oval when viewed in plan (2).

Features usually found on L. latens, but which sometimes occur on the widely variable M. perspicua.
#Maximum length when live 11 mm (6 to 8 mm frequent size).
!! Young M. perspicua can be under 11 mm length.
#Dorsal surface smooth to weakly tuberculated (3). !! Some M. perspicua can be also.
#Dorsal colours mainly whitish or sandy, often with yellow flecks near mantle edge (4) and fine black dots. !! Some M. perspicua have these markings.
#Individuals can vary their shape between a shallow bowl (5), inverted saucer (6) and almost flat. !! M. perspicua though usually higher, can lower itself to a shallow bowl.
