Valves ii to vii have a keeled jugum (1). The articulamentum insertion plates at the ends of the valves are deeply embedded into the girdle and out of sight. The coloured tegmentum (2) slightly overlaps the girdle but does not penetrate it. The stretched, pink (or white), transverse muscle (3) that holds the valves together can be seen between the valves when the chiton rolls into a ball.
