01 Akera bullata.

© J.C.A. Craik. Two exceptionally large specimens, 60 and 80 mm long, which were found in crevices in the concrete outflow channel from the Akera tanks in the aquarium of the Scottish Association for Marine Science at Oban, Scotland. They may have grown from eggs or larvae that leaked from the tanks and they may have then reached these large sizes because they found better feeding conditions than in the tanks, by roaming over the large concrete floor, much of it flooded with leaked tank water and carrying mats of growing algae.
Even when tightly wrapped around the body, the anterior ends of the parapodia are held ajar for the admission of the respiratory water current.
