07 Elysia viridis. 2011. Dorset, England.

© M. Storey. Red-brown specimen speckled with glistening turquoise freckles on Gastroclonium ovatum. This alga, unlike the usual food of E. viridis, is not coenocytic, so has its cytoplasm inaccessible within the walls of small cells. But it is conceivable that the juicy nodules might be a usable food source. This would need close observation to ascertain if true. Assuming that presence of E. viridis on an algal species indicates it is a host species has led to misinformation in some cases.
