00 Pusillina inconspicua

00 Pusillina inconspicua

Varying shells of P. inconspicua from a full salinity tidal lagoon in Llŷn Peninsula, Wales. Eye patches yellow or white. Broad brown-black band on head and double row of white hyphens in tentacles are common to all. It has been suggested (H. Raven, 2023. pers. comm. 9 April) that the live Welsh specimens shown in this account are the Atlantic form balkei of Pusillina radiata which occurs in Iberia and the Mediterranean, but it is not on the UK Species Inventory. Left: adults March 2015. H. 2.4 and 2.5 mm. Right: juveniles September 2015 H. 1.0 to 1.9 mm. In September, many juveniles but no adults in large sample of alga shaken in buckets of water, suggesting that here the species is an annual, dying after breeding in spring.
