11 Octopus vulgaris

Ventrally, the mantle bag is whitish (1). The anus (2) is close to the respiratory funnel (3) in the anterior of the mantle cavity. As well as digestive waste products (4), defensive ink is discharged from it, usually via the funnel, but in this case the proximal end of the funnel is reflected off the anus. Each arm has two rows of suckers (5). The sides of the suckers (6) and the undersides of the arms are often a pale shade of the dorsal colour up to a dark rim around the white circular distal face of the suckers.
