16 Lepidochitona cinerea

Two views of a radula (broken during extraction) from 16 mm long animal.
As on chitons generally, broad radula, about half length of body, bearing extremely strong teeth of chitin mineralized with magnetite; hardest material made by any living organism (Botelho, 2013). Teeth magnetic; adhere to iron. Most teeth on L. cinerea are colourless or yellow/orange, except two major laterals in each row which are pale when formed at rear of radula, darkening to black and hardening with magnetite as moved forwards.
