39 Tonicella marmorea

39 Tonicella marmorea

Cuticle of girdle. Specimen from Orkney, Scotland. February 2015. Leg. P. Lightfoot per J. Porter.
The cuticle on the ventral surface of the girdle, hyponotum, and dorsal cuticle, perinotum, survive when flesh is removed with NaOH. At this magnification the minute spicules can be discerned as tiny dots, widely spaced on the yellowish perinotum (1) and more closely packed on the whitish hyponotum (2).
