The cuticle on the dorsal cuticle of the girdle, the perinotum, appears smooth to the naked eye but shows a covering of very small spicules resembling the grain of leather at this magnification.
Frequently, part or all of the perinotum is suffused with verdigris-green which partially obscures the band pattern.
