The mantle can be contracted to match the extent of the foot (left), or extended far beyond it (right). The foot has straight sides and convex ends, and its edges are often wavy or indented. The posterior is often tapered (right). The more opaque, bilaminate anterior contains the anterior pedal mucus gland. The pale, translucent sole faintly shows the pinkish viscera under the shell.
