12 Lamellaria latens COMPARE Marsenia perspicua

12 Lamellaria latens COMPARE Marsenia perspicua

1: anterior of body and shell.
This L. perspicua specimen has a mantle resembling that of compound ascidians and many L. latens, but its length exceeding the maximum for L. latens and the spire (2) protruding beyond the oval outline (3) of the shell is diagnostic of L. perspicua. On this translucent specimen the shape of the internal translucent shell and its protruding spire (4) are faintly revealed by the yellow viscera within the shell.
Lengths: body 11 mm, shell 6.6 mm. April 2012. Weymouth, England.
