30 Marsenia perspicua

Compound ascidian, diameter c. 30 mm, with nine egg-capsules of M. perspicua inserted.

1: transparent compound ascidian.
2: buff ova seen through transparent lid of recently deposited egg capsule.
3: white ova seen through transparent lid of older expanded egg capsule.
4: rim of capsule lid; diameter a little less than that of capsule which is visible through transparent ascidian.
5: ascidian raised around rim of lid (not as raised as the rim on image 28) as capsule has not yet fully expanded, and this colonial species may have more depth than the one in image 28. April 2015. Cumbrae, Scotland. © Paula Lightfoot.
