Slightly translucent shell indistinctly reveals the dark animal within (1).
R. lilacina shown in this account are from a sheltered lagoon with soft substrate. Nearly all had broken lips (2) or more extensive damage to the body whorl with loss of the labial varix. In these conditions crab attack rather than wave action is the likely cause.
