Left: bands 1 & 2 coalesce , but still distinguishable, before passing into aperture. Bands 3 & 4 almost fused, but still discernible.
Right: Bands 1 & 2, and intervening gap, dimmed by milky periostracum. Bands 3 & 4 clearly separated by white.
