A: at rest; mouth closed, resting on dorsal surface of foot-anterior. Cephalic tentacles held against head. Pallial tentacles and mantle-skirt retracted from shell-edge.
B: active; transverse closed mouth.
C: outer lips starting to open. Active, so cephalic tentacles and pallial tentacles extended.
D: outer lips open exposing closed yellowish inner lips.
E: anteroventral view of dark-red odontophore removed from head. Golden teeth of radula at top disappearing into oral tube leading to yellowish inner lips enclosed on three sides by white chitinous jaw.
F: inner lips starting to open and expose golden teeth on crimson radular ribbon.
G: outer and inner lips wide-open exposing about four rows of radular teeth for grazing rock surface. Area of tooth-contact with substrate enclosed on three sides by edge of jaw, and at posterior by white fleshy-licker (small part visible in image within outer lips).
H: teeth and licker withdrawing, half of opening occupied by licker.
I: end of radula-stroke, opening occupied by licker. Jaw and licker confine particles during feeding. Ridge-and-groove surface of withdrawing licker sweeps into mouth any particles not adhering to radula.
