17 Differentiation L. obtusata/L. fabalis

Images of same L. fabalis specimen live, and weathered after death.
Reticulata colour form with early spire (1) preserving juvenile white form that mimics spirorbid worm cases living on Fucus serratus fronds.
Much of colour is in the periostracum which, when weathered, may fade and (2) peel off, exposing the pale calcium layer of the shell.
