Hard radula teeth, aided by pair of lateral chitinized jaws, produce distinctive network of feeding pits in surface of Lithothamnion .
After defecation, pellets carried by exhalent respiratory current to accumulate under posterior of shell until periodic sharp contraction of shell-muscle clamps shell down to expel water and faeces. If limpet removed, often a pile of waiting pellets is exposed, as in this image.
