37 Tritia reticulata

37 Tritia reticulata

1: neck of siphonal canal.

2: lateral view (X2 scale) of neck of siphonal canal. Five grooves on neck distinguish as T. reticulata s.s. from T. nitida which has three grooves. (Erosion can reduce number on both species.)

3 to 3: outer (palatal) lip broken away.

4: because of damage to it, palatal lip meets siphonal canal lip at obtuse angle (as on T. nitida) instead of acute or right angle of undamaged T. reticulata.

Beachworn shell 22.1 mm high, Llŷn, North Wales, August,1968.
