Sublittoral specimens of T. nitida from the Italian Adriatic which are up to 40 mm high; much larger than in Essex, c.30 mm maximum.

Some Adriatic T. nitida, like British T. reticulata, have opaque, white parietal lips (1) which conceal the colour of the underlying body whorl.

As well as a fairly strong labial varix, T. nitida have varices on other whorls, frequently in the Adriatic and more rarely in Britain.
