48 Tritia reticulata COMPARE Tritia nitida

On specimens from Essex, the parietal lip of T. nitida (1) is translucent showing the shell colour beneath. It is usually not as extensive, white or distinct as on T. reticulata and is sometimes eroded (2) on beachworn shells.

The spire whorls are convex (3) and the smooth protoconch is frequently worn or broken off to give a blunt apex (4).

Shell heights: 12.9 mm, 19.4 mm, 21.6 mm, 26.3 mm. Beached shells. Blackwater Estuary, Essex, England, September 2019. Leg. S. Taylor.
