Juvenile removed from shell.
Distinct, longitudinal, dark chestnut band on the distal face of the horseshoe-shaped pedal-retractor muscle. The band can often be seen through the translucent juvenile shell when living, and closely resembles the colour of Laminaria fronds. Band is absent from adults in holdfasts.
The heart is in the pericardial cavity (1) behind the left of the nuchal cavity.
The yellow digestive gland (2), composed of a mass of tubules, is usually the most obvious organ on the visceral mass.
The gonads are situated between the viscera and foot and project into view on adults in breeding condition, but they are not yet developed enough to be in view on this juvenile.
