The mantle-skirt is white (1), but, as it is translucent, the white is often tinted by the brown (2) of underlying shell when viewed ventrally. If the angle of light incidence is right, as in this case, the blue iridescence (3) of the shell interior colours the mantle. Underlying colour shows especially clearly through the efferent pallial vessel (4) which, with the blood within, is almost colourless transparent.
