Many muscles, such as those retracting the tentacles and buccal mass, run close to and join the columellar muscle; all need to be severed during dissection if the body is to be straightened out for examination.
The ocular tentacles are withdrawn into the body by the pull of retractor muscles that invert the organs like a sock pulled outside in.
The intestine loops through the digestive gland where digestion takes place, before joining the rectum along the right side of the body. The anus defecates into the rear of the mantle cavity.

4: rent in body wall exposing some viscera, resulting from severing of muscles and pulling back of coiled viscera.
5: externally visible part of inverted ocular tentacle.
6: intestine looping through digestive gland.
7: severed and raised, right edge of mantle.
